Prime Minister Attends CELAC Summit

The Latin American summit is being held under the theme "The Struggle Against Hunger, Poverty and Inequalities in Latin American and the Caribbean".
Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony has been invited to participate in the Second Summit Meeting of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which will take place in Havana, Cuba, on January 28 and January 29, 2014.
 
The summit will be dedicated to “ The Struggle against Hunger, Poverty and Inequalities in Latin America and the Caribbean.” 

While the summit will be held to engage leaders on the top-priority matters to which the region should dedicate its efforts, it is also serves as an opportunity to seek further assistance for Saint Lucia’s recovery efforts. 

“CELAC brings together leaders and organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean. This Summit will provide an avenue to extend personal gratitude to the leaders of the various countries who extended a hand to Saint Lucia after the Christmas Eve Trough. I will also use this opportunity to engage other Heads of State and Government to seek further assistance to deal with our immediate needs, such as the restoration of damaged infrastructure,” said Dr. Anthony. 

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Hon. Alva Baptiste, Minister for External Affairs, International Trade and Civil Aviation and His Excellency Hippolyte Eustace Vitalis, Saint Lucia’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Petro Caribe and ALBA. 

The delegation left Saint Lucia on Monday, January 27, 2014 and is expected to return on Thursday January 30, 2014, via a chartered aircraft provided by the Government of the Republic of Cuba. 

Hon. Philip J. Pierre, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport will act as Prime Minister during Dr. Anthony’s absence.
