THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH SEEKS TO RAISE AWARENESS, ADVOCATE FOR IMPROVED TREATMENT OPTIONS, AND SUPPORT AFFECTED FAMILIES.
As part of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to honoring the courage of children battling cancer, those who have survived, and those who have tragically succumbed to the devastating illness.
Under the theme "Reducing the Survival Gap," the Ministry seeks to raise awareness, advocate for improved treatment options, and support affected families throughout Saint Lucia.
Throughout the month of September, the Ministry will focus on celebrating advances in childhood cancer treatment, remembering the children we’ve lost, and rallying new advocates to join the fight against childhood cancer. This initiative aims to ensure that every child has the opportunity to live a long, healthy, and fulfilling life, free from the ravages of this disease.
Candy Sexius, Family Life Educator in the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs shared the Ministry’s ongoing efforts during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. “Once again, we have reached out to the family who lost a child to cancer. We’ve invited organizations, the public, and schoolchildren to wear gold or yellow in their honor. Additionally, we have organized a church service at the Deliverance Baptist Church in Ciceron.”
The ministry’s initiatives for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month offer strength and support to the families and friends who remain unwavering in their care for children throughout their cancer journeys. This is a time for the nation to reflect on the lives lost and renew its commitment to eradicating cancer as we know it, ensuring every child has the chance to reach their full potential.
