Saint Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet arrived in Mexico today for the first official visit to the Head of Government since diplomatic relations were established in 1979. While in Mexico, the Prime Minister will meet with President Enrique Peña Nieto and senior officials to discuss possible bilateral technical, scientific, educational and infrastructure cooperation programs, in addition to climate change, trade and integral risk management. The Prime Minister will give a talk at the Foreign Ministry and meet with Mexican businessmen to discuss investment and trade opportunities in Saint Lucia. Saint Lucia, an English-speaking Caribbean country, became independent from the United Kingdom in 1979. Since then, it has supported regional integration through its active participation in regional groups such as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States ( OECS) based in Castries, St. Lucia.
